Roger C. Stepp

Roger Carlyle Stepp, 91, of Duncannon, formerly of Mechanicsburg, went to be with our Lord and Savior on April 23, 2024. He was preceded in death by his wife, Dottie Westbrook Stepp on March 23, 2024, his parents Samuel O. Stepp and Margaret Fleming Stepp, a sister Enid Nehrig, brothers Samuel, Ken, and Thomas Stepp. Surviving are Roger’s children: Carla Stepp Yount (Wayne) and Doug Stepp (Jo), stepchildren: Art Barnett, Diane Crawford, Barbara Gerhardt, Rob Barnett, Linda Heckelman and Susan Baker, a brother: John Stepp. Nieces: Darlene Ray and Linda Hepfer, nephew: Thomas Stepp all of Duncannon and with whom he had lived in the later stages of his life. He also had 24 grandchildren, 26 great grandchildren and several other nieces and nephews spread throughout the country. Roger was born on June 11, 1932 in Sarver, Butler County, Pennsylvania, and attended Roaring Spring and Indiana High schools. He earned a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from Milwaukee School of Engineering, and attended Penn State and Indiana University of Pennsylvania. He served in the United States Navy, worked for Lear Sieglar, Lear-Astronics, Boeing, and on the Minuteman Missile with a specialty in auto pilots for planes and helicopters. He also worked for H. J. Harling in Duncannon and retired from the Pennsylvania State Testing Lab. He was a member of Aldersgate Church in Mechanicsburg, and attended Watts Wesleyan Church in Duncannon. His greatest joys in life were gardening and farming. He enjoyed giving his organically grown, fresh vegetables to all of his friends. Roger was an independent thinker who loved people, nature, and creative abstract ideas. He was a lively storyteller who made sure to entertain all visitors no matter how he felt. He was loved by his family and a multitude of friends who enjoyed the stories of his fascinating and colorful life. All are welcome to attend a Celebration of Roger’s Life on May 3, 2024 at 12:00 noon at The Watts Wesleyan Church, 55 Circle Road, Duncannon. The visitation will be one hour prior to the service. A short graveside service with Military Honors will be at The Hill Cemetery following the service.
