David L. Barrett

David L. Barrett went to be with Jesus on May 1, 2026 surrounded by his family. Born May 11, 1951, he was the beloved son of J. Maurice and Esther Barrett of Curwensville. Dave is survived and cherished by his loving wife of 52 years, Charlotte (Jury) Barrett, two daughters and a son: Lori Marshall (Lance), Lisa Balakoff (Gary) and Brian Barrett (Lindsey). He was blessed with 6 grandchildren: Sarah Marshall, Anna Marshall, Brady Balakoff, Nora Balakoff, Colin Barrett, and Kaylie Barrett. In addition, he is also survived by two sisters, Ruth Wohlberg and LaRue Mullins (Bill) and many nieces and nephews. David began his career with the Pennsylvania State Parks at Curwensville State Park, before moving to Hyner Run, Ryerson Station, Francis Slocum, Raccoon Creek and ending his 36 year career as Chief Operations Manager for the Bureau of State Parks in Harrisburg. After his retirement, he spent his time volunteering with AARP tax preparation services for 9 years. He loved the outdoors and spending time at his cabin, always with his dog Abby by his side. He was an avid hunter and took great pride in teaching his grandchildren the sport. Spending time with his grandkids was truly one of his greatest joys. He was a frequent spectator at their athletic events and performances. As a lifetime Steelers Fan, the games were always a must watch. Dave enjoyed traveling and always recommended a visit to Grand Teton. He was a talented repairman and loved tinkering with anything motorized. His spare time was spent attending auctions and bringing home his “valuable” finds. David loved helping others and as a final act of service chose to donate his body to further prostate cancer research. David attended Newport Assembly of God Church. A Celebration of Life will be held at the Newport Assembly of God’s Family Life Center, 27 W Shortcut Rd., Newport, PA, on May 11, 2026. Visitation will be 2:00 – 4:00 pm with a service and meal to follow.
