Herbert R. Robb Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Herbert R. "Herb" Robb, 89, of New Bloomfield, PA passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, November 21, 2021 at his home. Born January 22, 1932 in New Bloomfield, he was the son of the late Ruth (Scantlin) and George Robb. He was a graduate of New Bloomfield High School and Lycoming College in Williamsport, PA. Herb was a patriot and served his country as a Commander in the United States Navy. During the Korean Conflict he served on the USS Midway then transferred to the Naval Reserves where he retired as a commanding officer. Herb spent most of his working life in the family insurance business, The Robb Agency, and retired from Harleysville Insurance. He was the mayor of New Bloomfield for 23 years and an active member of the New Bloomfield Fire Co. and Ambulance Association where he was an EMT and served on the board of directors. He was a member of the New Bloomfield Lions Club for 65 years and had served as president, treasurer and secretary. He was a life member of New Bloomfield VFW Post 7463 and treasurer of the New Bloomfield Cemetery Association for over 50 years. He was a member of the Perry County Road Runners and Millerstown Moose Lodge. He was also a past leader of a local Boy Scout troop. He loved his hometown and always greeted people with a smile. Herb was warm, charming, and witty. He was a friend to everyone, the most genuine person and always unapologetically himself. He loved traveling, tennis, golf, puzzles, and being social, but most of all loved his hometown and the people in it. Herb was so full of life. He was the widower of Mary "Betty" (Obrycki) Robb (d. 1998) and is survived by his wife Margaret (Silke) Robb. Also surviving are his son G. Mitchell Robb and wife Pamela of New Bloomfield, step-children, Ron Hovell and wife Elizabeth of Georgia, Joan Zarate and her partner William Roberts of Texas, and his sister, Kay (Robb) Fahnestock of Illinois. He was affectionately known as Pop-Pop by nine grandchildren, Sam Miller, Maggie Lesser, Lucas Miller, Helen Lesser, Meghan Hovell, John William Hovell, Adan Roberts, Nora Robb, and Vincent Roberts as well as four great-grandchildren. Herb was preceded in death by his daughter, S. Tracey (Robb) Lesser and brother Walter Robb. A visitation and service will be held on Sunday, December 12, 2021, in the Boyer Family Funeral Home, New Bloomfield with visitation from 12:30 - 2:30 PM followed by a service officiated by Rev. George Martz. Burial, with full military honors, will be in Bloomfield Cemetery on May 22, 2022 at 1 PM. In lieu of flowers, please remember Herb through donations to the New Bloomfield Fire Company.
