December 30, 1939 - October 31, 2021
Emmanuel Chhaganlal Patel, Emu, went home to be with Our Lord on October 31, 2021 at age 81. Emmanuel was born to Chhaganlal and Naomi Patel on December 30, 1939 in Khergam, Gujarat in India as the seventh of eight children. He valued education and earned several degrees, including a Master’s in Economics and Law degree. He taught in several settings, including in college, while in India. Emmanuel met and married his wife, Lois, in India. After moving to the US, they settled in Central Pennsylvania. Emmanuel and Lois raised three children, Ravi, Anjali, and Jay. He was a dedicated and loving father; Emmanuel enjoyed the outdoors and sports of various kinds. He loved watching his older grandchildren Alexis, Alyssa, Simeon, Noah, and Micah continuing the family tradition of participating in sports. He enjoyed playing and spending time with his younger grandchildren, Addie and Bodie. He loved to fish and hunt with his youngest son, Jay, and friends. He got great satisfaction while doing these activities. He and Jay had many special times, and he made life-long connections with friends who loved to do the same. He followed the Philadelphia sports teams, especially the Phillies. He made trips to watch them with family and friends. He loved to travel and did so across the US and internationally. Emmanuel worked for the State of Pennsylvania; he was a cherished colleague who took on whatever responsibilities were necessary to help the organization. He developed strong relationships with those that he worked for and with and was well respected for his diligence and hard work. As he grew older, Emmanuel continued his friendships from his youth and young adulthood, many that have lasted for almost seventy years, cultivated those he had developed as he transitioned to the US, and developed new ones with those around him. The genuine nature of his character and warmth will sustain us in these difficult moments. Even in his final days, he embodied the fruits of The Spirit, showing kindness and mercy to those around him. Throughout his entire life, he held an unwavering faith in God, which he shared with those who surrounded him in both word and deed. Emmanuel joins his parents, his brothers and sisters, Sarvati, Manu, Indu, Sharda, Kanu, and Sheila, and other relatives in Christ to be with Him. He is survived by his wife, Lois, his children, Ravi (Deanna), Anjali (Adam), and Jay (Sheena) along with seven grandchildren, his brother Simon and family, as well as many other relatives. The family is grateful to the doctors and nurses that kept him well, even after several serious cardiac events. The kindness and compassion shown in his recent illness made this challenging time one of healing for many. The family asks that donations to honor the memory of Emmanuel go to Landisburg EMS. A celebration of Emmanuels life will be held in the spring of 2022.
