Pearl O. Berdecia

Pearl Ora (Watt) Grafmyer Berdecia, 92, of Shermans Dale, was escorted hand in hand by Jesus to her eternal home in Heaven on Sunday, March 9, 2025, surrounded by her loving family at the Bridges at Bent Creek in Mechanicsburg. Born May 3, 1932 in Lewistown, PA, she was the daughter of the late Harry F. and Nellie (Fink) Watt. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Ellsworth Grafmyer (1987), her second husband, Luis Berdecia (2007), her brothers, James, Harry, William Watt and sister Ila Fultz, an infant son, Rudy Ellsworth Grafmyer, and her stepchildren, James and Elba Berdecia. Pearl is survived by her children, Deborah Swartz (husband Tim) of Carlisle, Connie Kitner (husband Shorty) of New Bloomfield, Harry Grafmyer (wife Cathy) of Shermans Dale, James Grafmyer (wife Michelle) of Carlisle and stepsons Luis Berdecia Sr. (wife Ramona) and Lionel (Leo) Berdecia (wife Yasmin) of Philadelphia and her well known beloved furbaby, Homer. Pearl was abundantly blessed with 22 grandchildren, 46 great grandchildren and 19 great great grandchildren. She will be dearly missed by her family and friends. Pearl was the sweetest person with a heart of gold, always willing to help anyone. She was one in a million. She would cook a meal for a complete stranger. You may have entered her house as a stranger but by the time you would leave, you were family. Everyone called her “Gram”. She was just that kind of person that showed so much care and love. Pearl always found the good in everyone she met. She was the best mother, grandmother, great grandmother, great great grandmother, aunt and friend that anyone could have. \Pearl enjoyed sewing, fishing, cooking, baking, watching birds, trips to the beach, relaxing at camp on the rocking chair, watching the boats and kayaks go down the river and always loved spending time with her family. She had sewn almost 9,000 tote bags over a 3 year time frame with her church friends (Tillie, Shirley, Mary, Jim, Pastor Jeff and his wife, Linda). Pearl, Tillie, Shirley and Mary called themselves “The Bag Ladies”. The tote bags were filled with necessities and handed out to people in need during a disaster as part of Mission Central. She also volunteered with the monthly food program held at Young’s Church. Pearl was well known for making the best Puerto Rican rice and chocolate cake with white coconut icing. She was a member of the Youngs Church United Methodist Church, Shermans Dale. Special thanks to the staff at Transitions Allens Cove, Duncannon, the staff at Bridges at Bent Creek, Mechanicsburg and Compassus Hospice for the amazing love and care you provided to Pearl and the support you provided the family during her journey until her last breath. Special thanks to Boyer Family Funeral Home for handling the funeral arrangements, Pastor Luke Holtry for officiating the services and Young’s Church Alpha Class for the meal prep.
