Lorena (Morrison) Merris

Landisburg native, Lorena Dawn (Morrison) Merris, went to be with our Heavenly Father on December 30 th , 2018. Born on December 6, 1962, Lori passed away as a result of a pedestrian accident while on vacation in Ocean City, Maryland. She has joined in Heaven her grandmother and grandfather Ken and Dorothy Morrison, brother Mitch Morrison, father Donald Morrison, and step-father Lee Young. She is looking over her family on Earth: mother Eunice Lightner; step-father Neal Lightner, estranged husband Floyd Merris III; sons Kenneth Crull and F. Clay Merris IV; daughter-in-law Miranda Kellenberger; and grandchildren Konstantina Rhayne Crull, Ke'ala Naomi Crull, and Khloe Laumihi Crull, and Floyd Clayton Merris V. Lori is remembered by her friends, family, and co-workers at the Family Practice Center, as a fun-loving, selfless, athletic, competitive, and compassionate person. Lori was a notorious pool table hustler and could be found running pong tables at any party. Last year, she and her two sons went to Las Vegas, where they all had an excellent time gambling, watching football, and living it up. Every summer, she took each of her granddaughters to the beach, taking them on adventures to Frontier Town, the local horse track, the swimming pool, the mini golf course, and the beach. She enjoyed playing golf, running 5ks, watching football, listening to bands, going out with friends and family, living life, and winning. A fair, decent, and loving person in daily life, Lori was not someone to be crossed on the soccer or field hockey field. She loved to say that, "Winning isn't everything, it's the only thing," and, "If you ain't cheating, you ain't trying." Lori was the proud matriarch of her family and hosted weekly Sunday family football-viewing parties where she cheered on the Washington Redskins. She hosted family for every holiday. Her most prized possessions were her family, friends, and pets. Lori's cherished memories were of days spent with both of her sons and her grandchildren. She spent both her recent birthday and Christmas with her sons, her daughter-in-law, and grandchildren. She taught both of her sons to hunt, fish, play sports, and never be afraid to stand up for themselves and speak their minds. To her sons, she was not only an amazing Mom but also a best friend. Her family is comforted by the knowledge that her last day was spent relaxing on the beach, playing and throwing ball with her dogs (Newman and Jeri), watching football, striking up conversations with strangers, and making new friends - Lori's idea of the perfect day. She loved helping people in any way possible. Her family has been inundated with tales of her selfless, and often anonymous, charitable giving. As a final testament to her charitable nature, Lori spent the first day of 2019 saving countless lives via organ donation. She truly has touched the lives of everyone that she has met and will be greatly missed. Lori's services will be held at 11AM on Monday, January 7, 2019 at the Mennonite Center, 350 Green Park Road on route 233 between Green Park and Landisburg. Pastor Gay Irwin will officiate. Burial will be in Landisburg Cemetery. The family will receive friends and relatives from 9 to 11 AM at the center. Boyer Family Funeral Home is honored to handle the arrangements for the Merris Family.
