Edward A. Smeal On Friday morning, March 24, 2023, Edward A. Smeal of New Bloomfield, Pennsylvania was called home to be with our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. He passed peacefully at his home, with his wife by his side. Born December 29, 1950, in Philipsburg, Pennsylvania. He was the son of the late Willis A. and Dorothy J. (Luzier) Smeal. He is also preceded in death by his twin daughters Carolyn Marie and Clarissa Jean, his siblings, the late Helen Luzier and husband James (surviving); and the late Leslie Smeal and wife, Robin (surviving). On July 6, 1974, he married the love of his life, Lucy E. (Ziembo) Smeal, at St. Severin Catholic Church in Drifting, Pennsylvania. Along with his wife, he is survived by his children, Nathan E. Smeal and wife Rachel, Harrisburg and grandchildren Alexander and Emily; Elliot Smeal and wife Lori, Harrisburg; and Evelyn Isabella and husband, Louis, Brockway and grandchildren Karyssa, Anthony, Amber, Nick, Natane; sister Joyce Campbell and husband Rodger; and brother Gregory Smeal and wife Rene. Ed is a proud veteran of the United States Air Force, where he served for four years. He worked at Bethlehem Steel for 18 years followed by 25 years at the Department of Environmental Protection with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. He loved watching wrestling and football, and enjoyed being in nature while hunting and fishing. He was part of the West Perry Midget Football association for 10 years. He coached many young men who he helped grow into good men. He never forgot a single one of them. He was always the first to lend a helping hand to anyone who needed it. He had a welcome smile and an open heart. He impacted everyone he met. Even the cats. He loved his family who viewed him as your everyday, ordinary hero. Friends and family will be received beginning at noon on April 6, 2023, at Boyer Family Funeral Home, New Bloomfield to honor and celebrate his life. Services will begin at 1 pm. Pastor William Erney will be officiating. An alternative gathering will be held in Clearfield County and he will be laid to rest at Saint Severin Cemetery in Drifting, PA at a later date and time, to be determined. Family suggests memorial contributions be made in Edward's honor to the Saint Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis Tennessee. Penn State THON, and the West Perry Midget Football Association (via Venmo or check).
