Clarence V. Mitchell Jr.

Clarence V. Mitchell Jr. (“Mitch”), of Summerdale, Pennsylvania, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family on Thursday, April 2, 2026. Born in Lewistown on February 18, 1942, he was the son of the late Clarence V. Mitchell Sr. and Helen Mitchell. Mitch was a 1960 graduate of Susquenita high School and proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps from 1961 to 1965. Following his service, he dedicated 37 years of hard work to Conrail (later Norfolk Southern). His Saturdays were often spent as an usher at Penn State football games, where he combined his love of community and sports. Mitch found joy in life’s simple pleasures such as spending time with his family, gardening, bowling and golf. He had a keen sense of humor, always quick with a joke, bringing laughter and smiles to everyone around him. Known for his kind heart and generous spirit, Mitch was often the first to volunteer when someone needed help. He was a prison ministry volunteer and was greatly appreciated and respected by those he met within the Perry County prison system. Mitch was an elder at the River of Life Church in New Bloomfield, where his faith guided how he treated others - with compassion, generosity, and love. He is survived by his beloved wife, Annie; his son, Steven; and his daughters, Joann, Jenifer MacAllister (Brad), and Rebekah Sanders (Pete). He was a proud grandfather to Aiden, Mitchell, and Nathaniel. He is also survived by his stepchildren, Larry Schoppert (Lori), with grandchildren Aimee, Kayla, Bethany, and Ryan; and Melissa Schoppert, with grandson Billy. He was preceded in death by his second wife, Judith Mitchell, and his sisters, Rosemarie Celentano and Donna Keim. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, May 2, at River of Life Community Church, 717 Pine Grove Rd, New Bloomfield, PA 17068. Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m., followed by the service at 11:00 a.m. A fellowship luncheon will be held at the church immediately following the service.
