Frank A. Briner Jr.

Frank A. Briner, Jr., 79, of New Bloomfield, passed away peacefully on Monday, February 6, 2023, surrounded and comforted by his children and grandsons. Frank was a loving son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, godfather, uncle, neighbor and friend. He was a friendly, kind soul who enjoyed connecting with others, and his smile lit up the room. Frank was born on February 15, 1943 in New Bloomfield to Frank A. Briner, Sr. and Anna Irene (Zeiders) Briner. He was happily raised with his older sister, Doreen Frymoyer, and younger brother, John H. Briner. He was a lifelong member of the New Bloomfield United Methodist Church. He attended Perry Joint High School where he graduated in 1961. He was voted “Best Leader”, “Best Dancer”, “Most Friendly”, “Most Winning Smile”, “Most School Spirit” and “Best all Around”. He was on the ‘59 Perry Joint championship football team along with the baseball and basketball teams, played trumpet in the band and was the class Vice President. He worked as a Linetype Operator for the News-Sun, Perry Printing, Maple Press and Triangle Press, and was a Rural Mail Carrier for ShermansDale where he ultimately retired. He took great pride in doing a good job and in being a reliable employee. Frank was a knowledgeable and avid outdoorsman and nature lover. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, stargazing, canoeing and hiking, and enjoyed sharing his knowledge with others. He was a huge sports fan and loved playing and watching football, basketball and baseball. In particular, he enjoyed cheering for the PIttsburgh Steelers, Penn State, the Dodgers (Brooklyn and LA) and Dale Earnhart Sr. and Jr., but his favorite teams were the ones for which his son and grandsons played. He was their biggest fan! In the community, Frank was a Boy ScoutTroop leader, a youth baseball coach, and a member of the New Bloomfield Sportsmen’s Association, The Perry County Archers, the Moose and the New Bloomfield Lion’s Club. For many years, he managed the annual NB Carnival BINGO games and did the lights for the Lion’s Club plays. His hometown and civic duty were very important to him. Surviving are Frank’s son, Frank, III and grandsons Christopher and Nicholas Briner and his daughter Heather Dum (Benjamin Dum, Jr.) and grandson’s Benjamin III and Jacob Dum. Also his brother John H. Briner (Joanne) and brother-in-law, Carson Frymoyer, and many beloved nieces and nephews. A celebration of life will be held Saturday, February 11, 2023 at Boyer Funeral Home in New Bloomfield. Visitation will be from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm. The Memorial Service will be at 2:00 pm with fellowship and a meal to follow at the Lutheran Church Parish House.
