Solomon Baker

Solomon Baker, 92, of New Bloomfield, died on Sunday, April 15, 2018 in Pensacola, FL. Born June 2, 1925 in Newark, New Jersey, Mr. Baker was the son of the late George and Theresa (Surber) Baker. Mr. Baker was a World War II Army rifleman who served in 45th Infantry Division 157th Infantry Regiment in Rome-Arno, France, Rhineland, and central Europe. During his service, he earned The Bronze Star, Purple Heart, Combat Infantry Badge, and several other medals.  Upon leaving the army, Mr. Baker worked as an auditor for the U.S government for 33 years. Mr. Baker was a member of the American Legion, Newport DAV, and New Bloomfield VFW Post 7463. In his younger years, Mr. Baker was an avid fly fisherman and hunter.  He raised and trained award winning beagles. Mr. Baker's other interested included golf, antiques, and current events. Mr. Baker was the widower of Marie Baker (2010) who was a U.S. Navy veteran. He was preceded in death by a stepson Thomas F Morris, and two sisters, Ruth Orlando and Frieda Widman. Mr. Baker is survived by a stepson Edward Morris, Retired U.S. Navy and graduate of Carson Long Military Academy, and daughter-in-law, Charita "Charlie" Martin, Retired U.S. Navy, of Pensacola, FL. He is also survived by his twin sister, Rose Dillon of Ocean Grove, NJ, and several nephews and nieces. Services will be held at 10am on Monday, April 23, 2018 in the Boyer Family Funeral Home, New Bloomfield. Burial will be with full military honors. He will be escorted to Indiantown Gap National Cemetery by the Patriot Guard Riders of Pennsylvania. Friends may call at the funeral home one hour prior to the service. The Boyer Family is honored to handle the arrangements for Mr. Baker, a fellow veteran.
