He was born in Marysville on January 24, 1929, son of the late William Harvey Bentsel and Hannah Elsie (Weldon) Bentsel Gamber.
He is survived by his three children: James (Leisa) Bentsel of Shermans Dale, Tina (Michael) Clark of Suffolk VA and Joel (Dana) Bentsel of Shermans Dale; six grandchildren: Heidi (Jake) Richcreek, Seth (Jessica), Rhen (Elise) and Tori (fiancée Josh) Bentsel, and Graham (Elizabeth) and Zachary (Emily) Clark; two great-grandsons: Devon and Jacob Richcreek and a third great grandson (Bentsel) due any day; two great granddaughters: Collins and Brynn Clark and a sister: Marie Gamber.
He attended Perry Joint High School and was a proud member of the football team. He was very active with the Shermans Dale Fire Company as a lifetime member and held various positions over the years including his current position as assistant treasurer. Over the years he sold many raffle fundraiser tickets for the Shermans Dale Fire Company as well as other organizations. He was a member of various social organizations and would make friends everywhere he went. He retired from Quaker Oats and owned and operated Earl’s Electronics as a local TV sales and repair service.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Lois Louise Bentsel and a brother John Bentsel.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 – 8:00 PM Thursday, March 30, 2017 at Boyer Funeral Home, 101 W. Main Street, New Bloomfield. Funeral services will be held at the Shermans Dale United Methodist Church on Friday, March 31, 2017 at 11 AM. Friends may call at the church one hour prior to the service. Interment will take place at the Westminster Memorial Garden, Carlisle.
